CANTON SCHWYZ

Canton Schwyz shares borders with the cantons of Uri, Zug and Zurich. Canton Schwyz is linked to Canton Nidwald by Lake Lucerne and to Canton St. Gallen by Lake Zurich.

At the end of 2013 about 150,000 people lived in this Canton in the heart of Switzerland, divided into 6 districts and 30 municipalities. In 1291 the three Cantons Uri, Schwyz and Unterwalden founded the Swiss Confederation.

Visitors find everything for a perfect vacation in Canton Schwyz. In summer there are numerous lakes, lakeside beaches, harbours and boat rides, many mountains some with mountain railways or cable cars, lovely villages and towns as well as shopping possibilities. Throughout the year many old traditions are still kept alive in Canton Schwyz, starting with the “Fasnacht” in February to the “Samichlaus” in December. In winter, many small and familiar ski resorts present perfect ski-slopes with modern infrastructure and cosy alpine restaurants.
